Cicero Pleasant “Pleas” Poole, 83, of 145 Poole Rd., Rockingham, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 at his home. Mr. Poole was born December 17, 1926 in Montgomery County, NC, a son of the late Cicero Leonard and Gladys Boyd Poole. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church, where he cared for the grounds and was instrumental in the construction of the church cemetery. He retired from the North Carolina Highway Department and later was an entrepreneur in several businesses in Richmond County including the Hwy 220 Flea Market and Go-Kart track. He was a member of the Union County Fox Hunters Association and had served his country in the US Army during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Farrell Elaine Hardin Poole of the home; children, Alice Poole of Ohio, Wayne Poole, Leo Poole and David Poole, all of Rockingham; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchild, 1 great-great-grandchild; and sisters, Ethel Allen of Ellerbe and Aleen Howell of Rockingham. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Kearse, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Poole Road.
