Ruby Abbott Harrelson

Mrs. Ruby Abbott Harrelson, 86. of Rockingham, died Monday, November 1, 2010 at Britthaven of Hamlet. Mrs. Harrelson was born September 2, 1924 in Surry County, a daughter of the late Joe and Dora Westmoreland Abbott. She was a member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church where she had served as treasurer of the her Sunday School Class. During World War II she went to work at an airplane factory in Baltimore, MD where she riveted sides on B24 bombers. She later retired from TransSouth Financial Services in Rockingham. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Tommie Harrelson, a brother, Fred Abbott and a sister, Florence Glasgow. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Judy Harrelson of Rockingham; grandchildren, Larry Harrelson, Jr. and wife Haven of Rockingham, Ken Harrelson and wife Duanna of Winnibow, NC, Matthew Harrelson of Pinehurst and Ethan Harrelson of Raleigh; great grandchildren, Brittany and Tommy Harrelson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at West Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Dawkins and Rev. Dr. Jim Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at Larry and Judy’s home, 401 Deweese Ave. Rockingham.
