Rev. J. Willard Singletary, 83, of Polkton passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 at Anson Community Hospital in Wadesboro. He was born July 11, 1923 in Halifax Co., NC, a son of the late C. V. and Effie Jane Shaw Singletary. Rev. Singletary was originally from Rockingham and has been a pastor for almost forty years at numerous churches around the state. He was an Army and Air Force veteran in World War II. Rev. Singletary’s last years have been spent at Lillie Bennett Nursing Center in Wadesboro. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, November 26th at Community Church in Rockingham with Rev. Mitchell Roller and Rev. Jeff Collins officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery with military honors. Surviving are his wife, Martha Roller Singletary; two daughters, Brenda S. Jones of Polkton and Janice S. Martin of Greensboro; two sons, Glenn Ray Singletary of Concord and Barry Mitchell Singletary of Oak Island; three brothers, Ronald Singletary and Keith Singletary, both of Rockingham and Richard Singletary of Southport; two sisters, Inez Kaplan and Betty Quick, both of Rockingham; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Singletary, Jack Singletary, and Charles Singletary.
