Melda Greene Martin

Melda Greene Martin, 85, of Rockingham, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Britthaven of Hamlet. Mrs. Martin was born March 27, 1925 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late J. Daniel and Effie Baucom Greene. She was a graduate of Candor High School and an active member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church. She moved to Rockingham, following her retirement as a registered nurse from the VA Hospital in Durham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin, a daughter, Olivia Fowler, brothers, Aris Greene, Avery Greene, and J.D. Greene and a sister, Favian Greene. Surviving are her son, Bernie Harrison of Chatham County, NC; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren, brothers,Allen Greene of Lilesville, Brooks Greene of Charlotte; sisters, Edith Lamonds and Julia Knight, both of Rockingham, and Alameda Tucker of Columbia, SC. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Richmond County Memorial Park with Rev. Donald Dawkins officiating. The family will see friends following the service.
