Robert ‘Billy’ Capps, 87, of 215 River Rd., Rockingham died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born January 15, 1919 in Cumberland Co., a son of the late Clyde and Alice Woodall Capps. Mr. Capps was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham, serving as treasurer of the Methodist Men for many years. He was retired with the U. S. Postal Service with over thirty years of service. He was a scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts for many years and received the President’s Award and Silver Beaver Award for Scouting. He was a member of the Rockingham Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Capps served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 29th at First Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Nanny, Rev. Leonard Mayo, and Rev. Paul Woodall officiating. Masonic rites will follow the service. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery. Masons are asked to be at the lodge at 1:00 pm. Surviving are his wife of sixty six years, Doris Farmer Capps of the home; a daughter, Bebe C. Blackman of Hamlet; a son, Carlyle Capps and wife Sue of Alameda, CA; two grandchildren, Chris Blackman and Angie Wiggins; and four great grandchildren, Josh and Amber Wiggins, and Crystal and C. J. Blackman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Henry Cox and a brother, Clyde Carlyle Capps. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 pm at Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 410 E. Washington St., Rockingham, NC 28379.
