Mr. Oscar Thurman Stokes, age 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, November 26, 2010 at his home. Mr. Stokes was born July 15, 1925 in Richmond County a son of the late Frank and Becky Brock Stokes. He worked at Safie Mill, Beaunit Mill, and Carolina Paper Mill as a mechanic and retired from CSX Railroad as a machinist. He was a member of Living Waters Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Stokes, one son Mitchell Thurman Stokes, one sister Myrtle Parker and two brothers Artis Stokes and Lester Stokes. He is survived by his son Mark Stokes and wife Karla and one daughter Judy Stokes and Donnie, one brother Frank Stokes and two sisters Emily Willoughby and Eva Smith. Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 P.M. at the Carter Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Benoist and Rev. Wesley Potter officiating. Interment will follow at Northam Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at 343 Stokes Road.
