Charles William Freeman, 69, of 189 Ellerbe Rd., Rockingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his family at his home, on Thursday, December 16, 2010. Mr. Freeman was born July 20, 1941 in Richmond County, NC, a son of the late William A. Freeman and the late Helen Butler Freeman Adams. He was a member of East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans. Charles proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Navy, stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. He was serving aboard the Wasp when it was deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He was an accountant by profession and operated several businesses in the Rockingham area prior to his retirement. He had a witty personality, that his family and friends truly enjoyed, which will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Freeman and Norma Atkinson. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Gayle Brigman Freeman of the home; sons, Michael Freeman and wife Tammy of Gastonia, Darin Freeman of the home; grandchildren, Jennifer F. Renkovish and husband Thomas of Sharon, SC, Jamie and Deven Freeman of Rockingham; and a great grandson, Thomas “T.J.” Renkovish of Sharon, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at Beverly Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Mickey Briles officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home on Ellerbe Rd. Memorials may be made to Beverly Hills Baptist Church, 110 Kemberly St., Rockingham, NC 28379. The family would like to offer special thanks to Tammy Driggers, his RN and to Tina Keane, his CNA. Mr. Freeman was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family.
