Constance Lucielle Dawkins, 83, of Rockingham died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital. A native of Richmond County, she was born September 4, 1923, daughter of the late James William Dawkins and Essie Todd Dawkins. After graduating from Rockingham High School, she worked for the Farmer’s Bank. She helped at the USO on Leak Street during World War II. Later, she worked for the Richmond County Bank and, for a short time, for Wachovia Bank in Charlotte. In 1962, she began work in the office of the J. C. Penney store on the square in downtown Rockingham. She retired with J. C. Penney in 1987. She was a life long member of the First Baptist Church in Rockingham, where she was a Bible leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an active member of the local chapter of MADD for many years. A memorial service will be conducted graveside 2:00 pm Thursday, January, 11th at Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are a niece, Ellen Dawkins McShane and nephews, Michael Dawkins of Colorado and Christopher Dawkins and wife Michelle of Oregon, one great nephew and one great niece , and many cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Todd Dawkins Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 201 N. Randolph St., Rockingham, NC 28379. The family is represented by a cousin, Trudy Dawkins Watkins and husband Neal Watkins of Rockingham.
