Audrey Martin Brown Ewing, 97, born on February 25, 1928, in Warren County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockingham, on March 26, 2025. She was a remarkable individual whose life was marked by her dedication to both her profession and her community.
Audrey devoted many years to serving as a Registered Nurse in the Labor & Delivery unit of Richmond Memorial Hospital, where she played a pivotal role in bringing new life into the world. She later retired from her position with the State Department of Corrections, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and commitment to nursing.
A long-time active member of First Methodist Church in Rockingham, Audrey found great joy and fulfillment in singing in the choir. Her faith and community involvement were integral to her life. She also contributed her time and talents through various volunteer activities, including her work with Our Daily Bread Ministry. Additionally, she served as a Girl Scout leader, helping to shape the lives of many young girls.
In her personal life, Audrey cherished the moments spent with her family. She is survived by her loving children, Susan B. Foreman of King, NC , John Brown of Rockingham, NC, Jeff Brown of Seagrove , NC, Kay Stewart of Fayetteville, NC, and her special friend Tom Wheeler of Rockingham. Audrey was also a proud grandmother to Matt Brown, Teressa Beavers, Lisa Shelley, and James Foreman, III, and she delighted in the joy of her four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Audrey was predeceased by her father, William Lee Martin, and her mother, Josephine Cheek Martin. She also mourned the loss of her husbands, John E. Brown and Robert V. Ewing, as well as her sister, Ida Pegram, and her brother, William Martin, Jr.
The warmth and kindness that Audrey exuded throughout her life will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her dedication to her profession, her love for her family, and her commitment to her community have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. She will be greatly missed but lovingly remembered.
Services to celebrate a life well lived will be held at First Methodist Church at a later date.
