Audrey Taylor White

d. March 10, 2025

Rockingham

Audrey Lee Taylor Long White passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025. Born to Emory S. and Minnie Lee Taylor in Surry County, within eyeshot of Pilot Mountain, she spoke frequently of her Taylor and Cook heritage and credited her strong work ethic to those who came before her. The ninth of twelve children, she was the first daughter after eight boys, making her the apple of everyone’s eye from the start.

Audrey spent most of her life in Rockingham, NC. Working at Klopman Mills for many years after returning from being stationed in Okinawa, she eventually transitioned to a more creative job where she hung wallpaper in Richmond and surrounding counties until her mid-70s. Many will remember her from her time spent at the Farmer’s Market selling her homemade bread and baked goods.

As the wife of both an Army and Air Force serviceman, Audrey was proud of this title; she embraced the role wholeheartedly and often spoke about its significance. She understood the sacrifices military families make and was proud to be part of that service.

Audrey will be remembered for her intense work ethic, fierce love of family, pride in the modest yet meaningful life she built, and the many roles she embraced throughout her 95 years.

Audrey is preceded in death by her daughter Sharon Long Silver, husband Monty White, both parents, eight brothers, and two sisters. We know she was greeted on the other side by many she missed here on earth.

Audrey is survived by her daughter Beverly Logan (Bob) of Pinehurst, NC, and son Lester (Sonny) Claiborne Long III (Vickey) of Oxford, NC; brother Rex Taylor (Jean) of Rockingham, NC, and her six grandchildren: Clay Long (Krista), Taylor Whitley (Brittany), Jed Whitley (Nikki), Kelly Brown (Joel), Kathryn Silver, and Stephen Long. She also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family, all of whom she loved dearly and spoke of often.

A service to celebrate the life of Audrey T. White will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the graveside in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cross Connection Taylor Whitley Endowment Fund. Donations can be made online at crossconnection.org/tw-endowment or by mail to 3540 Toringdon Way, Suite 200 - #208, Charlotte, NC 28277.
