Carl Richard Chavis

Carl Richard “Goat” Chavis, 84, of Rockingham, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Chavis was born July 21, 1934 in Richmond County, a son of the late Hilliard and Pearl Lee Chavis. He was a member of Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church and was a machinist.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Harvey Chavis and Thomas Chavis and sisters Betty Chavis Dunn, Jean C. Greene,  Evelyn Liles and son-in-law Roger K. Lowery.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Faye Sanford Chavis; children,  Bridget Goodwin(Gary) of Rockingham, Sue Lowery of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Timothy Chavis of Rockingham; grandchildren, Chris Goodwin, Michael Goodwin, Victoria Chavis and Brianna Zamarripa and great grandchildren, Amber, Brent, Hunter, Sophia and Sebastian.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Maple Street Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Darwin Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.

The family will see friends from 12:45 – 1:45 pm at the church prior to the service and at other times at the home.
