Dale Brennan Furr

Dale Brennan Furr, 78, of Rockingham, North Carolina, peacefully entered into the presence of his Lord on April 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and the legacy of a life devoted to service, integrity, and faith.

Born on June 16, 1946, in Rockingham to Maurice and Edna Mae Furr, Dale was the eldest of five children and embraced the responsibilities of leadership and care from an early age. A proud graduate of Rockingham High School, Class of 1964, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. During the Vietnam War, he served with distinction aboard the U.S.S. Newman K. Perry, exemplifying courage and dedication during a time of great challenge.

Following his honorable military service, he married his wife, Susan. Dale began a new chapter in public service with the Charlotte Police Department in 1970. His deep-rooted commitment to family and community led him back home to Richmond County in 1979, where he joined the Richmond County Sheriff's Department. There, his steadfast character and dependable leadership earned him the role of Chief Deputy in 1988. In 1994, he was elected Sheriff of Richmond County-a position he held with pride and honor for 16 years until his retirement in 2010. His leadership left a lasting impact on the department and the countless lives he touched throughout his 40 years of law enforcement service.

Dale was preceded in death by his beloved parents; his sisters, Beverly and Carol; and his infant son, Michael.

He leaves behind a devoted family who cherished him deeply: his beloved wife of 57 years, Susan; his son, John David; daughter-in-law, Carrie; treasured granddaughters, Annalise and Ella; his brother, Lenier (Denise); his sister, Linda (Dane), and many wonderful friends. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and servant to his community-roles he fulfilled with unwavering loyalty.

Dale's life was a testament to duty, honor, and love-a legacy that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service to glorify God and honor Dale's life will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at the Beverly Hills Family Life Center, located at 110 Kemberly Street in Rockingham. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM, with the memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM.
