It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Denny Clyde Spivey, who resided in Rockingham, North Carolina. Mr. Spivey passed away on February 4, 2024, at 78, leaving a legacy of fond memories and achievements. Born on April 21, 1945, in Richmond County to Thomas and Ethel Spivey, Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by both parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry C. Spivey, to whom he was married for 60 years, and his daughters, Denell S. Lytton (Chuck Naas) and Denise Spivey-Johnston and her husband Eric Johnston. Mr. Spivey is also survived by his grandchildren, Yuri Johnston and his wife Blaire and Elizabeth Johnston, as well as his great-grandsons, James Hudson Johnston and Isaac Blair Johnston. Additionally, he is survived by his nephews and nieces, his lifelong friends Brenda Cannon and Wilson Lampley, and his best friends, Ronnie Chavis and Sandy Greene. Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Spivey dedicated 39 years to working for CSX Railroad before retiring. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and NASCAR racing enthusiast.
A casual graveside service will be held at Eastside Cemetery on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 1:00 PM. The service will be conducted by Fred Conner, Mark Conner, and Yuri Johnston, and an ASL interpreter will be present.
