Dorothy Winford Perkins Benson, 87, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Mrs. Benson was born December 19, 1930 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late John Fletcher and Jeniss Elizabeth Cockman Perkins. She had attended Rockingham Wesleyan Church and for many years was the owner and operator of Hobby House and Hers & His Bridal Shop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Colleen Gribbins and Doris “Red” King.
Surviving are her husband of 72 years, J.R. Benson of the home; children, Gail Covington Quick of Rockingham, Rick Benson (Gail) of Ellerbe, Randy Benson (Kellie) of Rockingham, Tammy Stewart (David, Jr.) of Ellerbe and John Benson (Laura) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Rene` Covington Ward, Lee Covington, Riley Benson, Holden Benson, Heather Benson, Clay Benson, Maxie Poole, Christopher Shepley, Ashley Stewart and JoAnna Benson and great grandchildren, Haley Covington, Parker Covington, Jene`Ward, DeeAnna Ward, Kylie Benson, Leah Manivong, Cody Shepley, Jace Shepley and A.J. Blue.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday in the colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will see friends from 6 – 8 pm Sunday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
