Dorothy Phillips McFayden, 90, of Ellerbe, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family.

Mrs. McFayden was born December 21, 1927 in Moore County, a daughter of the late Lonnie Green and Mattie Green Shields Phillips. She was a longtime member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She loved her family, gardening and her church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Ralph McFayden; brothers, Glenn, Eli, L.G.,Jr. and Joe Phillips; and sisters, Beatrice Nall, Bonnie Purvis, Alice Johnson and Helen Comer.

She is survived by a son, James Ralph McFayden, Jr., and wife Laura Tinsley McFayden of Wilmington, two daughters, Elizabeth McFayden Bryant and husband Austin of Ellerbe, Christine McFayden Klein and husband Jeffery of Atlanta, Ga, grandchildren, Patrick Bryant of Ellerbe, Alex Bryant and wife Lauren of Belmont, Pierson Klein and Paxton Klein both of Atlanta, Ga, and great grandchildren, Beau and Charlotte Bryant of Belmont.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. McFayden will be at 4 pm Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe with Rev. James Watson officiating. Private interment will be held in Ellerbe Cemetery.

The family will greet friends following the service and at other times at the home.
