  Dorothy Allred “Dot” Snyder, 89, of Ellerbe passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst.  Mrs. Snyder was born December 21, 1927 in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late James Isaac “Ike” and Martha Jane “Mattie” Graham Allred. She was a graduate of Candor High School, received her B.A from Flora McDonald College and her M.Ed. from UNC-Greensboro. She taught English at Ellerbe High School, Ayden High School, Asheboro High School and Randolph Community College, a total of 30 years in education. In 1966, she was inducted into Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary society of key women teachers, where she had served in many capacities at chapter and state level, including 5 years as Eta State Executive Secretary.  She was a longtime member of Ellerbe First United Methodist Church where she served as Lay Leader, Sunday School teacher and on most committees at the church. During the 20 years she lived in Asheboro, she was a member of Central United Methodist Church. A great joy and inspiration in her life was teaching Sunday school, from the time she was 12 years old and began assisting in the children’s class at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, right up until Bible Study at her home the night before her stroke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grover C. Snyder, brothers, Ed Allred, Howell Allred and sister Lois Allen. Surviving are her nephews, Bill Allred and Donald Allred, both of Norman, Roger Allred of Stanfield and several great nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be at 1pm Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Ellerbe First United Methodist Church with Rev. Elizabeth Polk and Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
