Eugene Carol Gainey

Eugene Carol Gainey, 72, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at his home. Carol was born August 18, 1945 in Hartsville, SC, a son of the late Dewey Gainey and Tiny Mary Morse Taylor. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham and had served in the North Carolina National Guard. He retired as an Engineer with CSX Railroad after 43 years of service.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda French and his stepfather Lloyd Taylor.  Surviving are his wife, Wanda Chavis Gainey of the home; daughters, Nicolle Gainey of Myrtle Beach, SC and Leslee Greene of Rockingham, grandchildren, Morgan, C.J. and Caroline Greene; brother, Dewey Gainey, Jr. of Rockingham and sisters, Phyllis Ford and Sherry Nichols, both of Rockingham. Funeral services will be at 2pm Monday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Williams officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. The family will see friends from 12:45 to 1:45 pm Monday at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
