Francis Leon Hammer

Francis Leon Hammer, 77, of Norman, passed away Monday, August 5, 2024 at his home. 

Mr. Hammer was born December 1, 1946 in Montgomery County, a son of the late Ralph and Elgie “Berlene” Lewis Hammer. He was an active member of Holly Mount Baptist Church and had retired from Dewitt Trucking. He enjoyed fishing, fixing up old cars and he loved riding in parades in his 1967 Ford Fairlane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Miller Hammer.

Surviving are his step-children, John Cheyney, Jr. (Christy) and Lori O’Brien (David); step-grandchildren, Brittney Umana and Alyssa Rush and great-grandchildren, Dominic Sowards, Evie Sowards and Greyson Umana. 

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Holly Mount Baptist Church, 536 Holly Mount Church Rd., Mount Gilead, NC 27306 with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Baldwin Cemetery in Norman. 

The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 2:45 pm Sunday at the church.
