Geraldine "Jerrie" Jones Yates

Geraldine “Jerrie” Jones Yates, 82, of Rockingham, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Jerrie was born May 6, 1937 in High Shoals, NC and at a young age moved to Richmond County, where she attended Rohanen High School. She was the daughter of Lloyd and Dixie Jones. She was a homemaker for many years and later went into retail, retiring from Tasty-Maid Bake Shop. A devoted wife and mother, she loved her God, her family and her church, Emmanuel Ministries Church in Hamlet. She had served as a Children’s Sunday School Teacher, church clerk, helped to organize the food pantry and sang with the Praise and Worship trio. She often said that she had met so many wonderful people and made special friends in her lifetime, and she was the most blessed person in the world. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Larry Jones.

She is survived by the love of her life Albert Yates, Jr, with whom she celebrated 59 years of marriage on September 18; son Michael Yates (Tricia Crabtree); 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Long and Dianne Nutting and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A celebration of Jerrie’s homegoing will be at 10 am Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Shelley Dial officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service in Richmond Memorial Park.

The family will gather to greet friends from 6 – 8 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
