It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hattie Ingram Bane, of Rockingham, who departed this life on April 20, 2025, at Pruitt Health in Rockingham, North Carolina at the age of 94. Born on August 22, 1930, in Richmond County, North Carolina, Hattie was a cherished member of her community and a beloved family member whose life’s work will be remembered with fondness.

Hattie’s professional journey began with a 20-year tenure at Wood's Five & Dime, culminating in a remarkable 40-year career at Rockingham Hardware from which she eventually retired. Her dedication and hard work exemplified a strong commitment to her profession and served as an inspiration to those around her.

A longtime member of West Rockingham Methodist Church, Hattie served diligently as Sunday School Superintendent, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals and families within the congregation. Her devotion extended beyond the church as she notably took on the role of head of the Richmond County Department of Social Services Children's Christmas Toys project, ensuring that numerous children experienced the joy of receiving gifts during the holiday season.

Outside of her work and service, Hattie was a gifted seamstress and quilter. Her skill in creating beautiful quilts earned her recognition at the Richmond County Fair, where she won several ribbons for her intricate designs. Many of her quilts have found a home displayed at Rockingham Hardware, serving as a testament to her craftsmanship and the love she infused into each piece. Hattie also found pleasure in tending to her flowers, showcasing her green thumb and nurturing spirit. Known for her self-sufficiency, she was regarded as a self-made handyman, embodying a can-do attitude in all aspects of life. Her simple pleasures included enjoying Mountain Dew, hot dogs, and ramen noodles, reflecting her down-to-earth nature..

Hattie is survived by her son, Stanley W. Bane, her sister, Betty I. Everett, and her grandson, Stanley W. Bane, Jr.. Her nephews, Ken Everett (Polly) and Darrell Everett (Dawn) and her niece, Cathy Bowers (Mike Willoughby), also carries forward the cherished memories of their time together.

She is predeceased by her husband, William E. Bane, her daughter, Patricia Thomas, and her parents, Henry Ingram and Ida Lampley Ingram. Each of these lost relationships shaped the person she became, and they will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

The visitation to honor Hattie will be held on April 24, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 5:45 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham, located at 705 S Caroline St, Rockingham, NC 28379. Pastor Paul Haber will officiate. She will be laid to rest privately beside her beloved husband in Eastside Cemetery.

Hattie Ingram Bane's legacy is one of love, service, and unwavering strength. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
