James McIver Nicholson

James McIver Nicholson, 95, of Ellerbe, completed his earthly journey on Saturday, January 11, 2025 with family at his side.

Mr. Nicholson was born July 2, 1929 in Montgomery County, NC, a son of the late John McIver and Jessie Blanche McIntyre Nicholson. He was a longtime member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church where he served many years as Elder and Clerk of the Session. His faithfulness and love of his church saw him serve in many leadership positions in the church’s statewide governing bodies. 

Mr. Nicholson retired from banking after a long career which began at age 19, at the Farmers Bank and Trust, Rockingham. His career span led to Vice-President of Richmond County Bank and later manager of Fidelity Bank in Ellerbe. Mr. Nicholson served in the 501st Military Police Battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dotelene “Dot” McFayden Nicholson and siblings, Mary Ann Nicholson and Lionel K. ( Amelia) Nicholson.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda Nicholson Mabe (Carl); grandson, Ben Stamets (Carla); great grandchildren, Ava and Wesley Stamets. Mr. Nicholson cherished his nieces and nephews and was seen as an additional father figure to all including Doug McFayden (Beverly), Steve McFayden, Anne Thompson (Johnny), Patricia Clark (Hugh), Carol Elder (Joe), Dianne McGreevy (Chris), Tommy Covington (Belda), Janice Watkins (Steve) Terry Nicholson (Teri) and Laurie Nicholson.

Funeral services, with Military Honors, will be at 11:00 am Saturday, January 25,2025 at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe with Rev. James Watson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
