James “Jim” C. Peninger Jr. passed peacefully in the loving arms of Jesus at Hospice Haven on August 12, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Jim was born on December 13, 1942, the son of the late James Clifford Peninger, Sr. and Margaret Carter Page. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Page. Jim was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and the former owner and operator of Mid-South Insulation Company. He served on the City of Rockingham’s Planning Board and Board of Adjustments. Jim had a love for animals including his horses, homing pigeons, and his best buddy (his dog) Charlie, who he taught to count. He also loved to shoot skeet as a member of Sandhills Rod and Gun Club.
Jim was always easy going and a perfect gentleman. His wife and family were his greatest loves. From the births of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to ballgames and dance recitals, and graduations and weddings, he was there and proud of each moment. He was affectionately known as Papa by family and many others.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret Lassiter Peninger and his daughter Kim Floyd (Dale) of Rockingham; his grandchildren Hunter Floyd (Laine), Kendal Floyd Speigel (Bryce); great-grandchildren Jackson, Lennon, and Emersyn Floyd; sisters-in-law Jean Lee (Carl), Donna Hamilton (Jeff), Mary Jane Lassiter, Phyllis Lassiter, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Carter Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, August 15, 2022 and at other times, at the Peninger home. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Alex Perakis and Pastor Ronnie McLean officiating. Entombment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Richmond County Hospice and Hospice Haven at 1110 US Hwy 1 N, Rockingham, NC 28379.
