John Glenn Hill

  John Glenn Hill, 86, was born to George Walter Hill, Senior and Cora Weddle Hill on February 8, 1931 in Ellerbe. He left for his eternal life on October 18, 2017. He loved fishing and frying fish, Bluegrass Music, hunting, racing from dirt tracks to NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves and repairing and rebuilding guns. He could figure out how to fix anything and make amy part he needed. He owned Hill Machines in Ellerbe. He was a navy veteran of the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Glidewell Hill, his parents, his sisters, Minnie Hill Wright and Christine Hill Price; his brothers Maynard Hill and G. W. Hill, Jr. He is survived by his children; Robin Hill Horne(Todd) of Ellerbe, Janice Abbott Cox(Terry) of Kernersville, Pete Abbott(Debbie) of Ellerbe, Mike Abbott(Lynn) of Barney, GA, Marty Abbott Goodman(Steve) of Rockingham, and his second love and companion of 20 years Susie Thrower Graves of Rockingham. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be from 12:45 – 2:45 prior to the funeral. Burial will follow the service in Ellerbe Cemetery. In 2010, he was made an honorary member of the Oasis Big Riggs in Charlotte. The family requests memorials be made to the Oasis Shriners Hospital for Children, 604 Doug  Mayes Place, Charlote, NC 28262.
