John Wilson Yates

John Wilson Yates, 78, of Hamlet, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond in Rockingham.

John was born October 7, 1942 in Richmond County, a son of the late Floyd and Kathleen Collins Yates. He had retired from UCO (formerly Fruit of the Loom) in Rockingham. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed fishing and working in his yard and garden.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Tammy McKenzie and Sherry Ponds.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Shirley Jowers Yates; grandchildren, Josh Weatherford, Amber Ponds, Jeremy Ponds, Trey McKenzie and Hunter McKenzie; great grandchildren, Jakaer “Bug” Wall, Oliver Berry, Alice Berry, and Trey Berry; brothers, Robert Yates and Ralph Yates and sisters, Betty Short and Joyce Dunlap.  We love and miss you

The family will hold a private service at a later date.
