Jon Thomas Quay, 80, of Rockingham, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on April 22, 2025, at Wadesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born on March 11, 1945, in Mount Olive, New Jersey, Jon lived a life marked by a commitment to family and community.
Jon spent his career in maintenance with the Valley Protein Rendering Plant, where he was well-respected for his hard work and dedication. Beyond his professional life, he was known for his love of woodworking and tending to his yard, hobbies that reflected his hands-on approach to life and appreciation for the simple joys it offers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Leila Gainey Quay, along with their children: Janet Taylor (George), James Hodges, Patty Hodges, and Christy B. McCoy. Jon was also a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren and great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom he was immensely proud of.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, William Quay and Edna Mae Quay, and his brother, William Quay. He is remembered for his quiet nature, his dry sense of humor and his willingness to help others. He was a well-loved man.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Noon in Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham, North Carolina.
