Joshua Ira Iacona

Joshua Ira Iacona of Troy, passed away on March 20,2024 after a brief illness while on vacation in New York City. He was 50 years old. 

Joshua was born May 11, 1973 to Val G. and Jeanette J. Iacona in Rockingham. He was a 1992 graduate of Richmond Senior High School. He attended Sandhills Community College. Joshua worked for CSX Transportation in Hamlet, then for the US Postal Service in Concord, Salisbury, Troy and Ellerbe. Joshua had a great sense of humor, loved animals and was very close to his family. He loved the beach, mountains and enjoyed travel. Joshua was a big guy with an even bigger heart. He was a kind and gentle soul, animals and children gravitated toward him. 

Joshua is survived by his parents, Val G. and Jeanette J. Iacona of the home; his sister Valerie I. Williams and his nephew, Christopher Mason Williams, both of Carthage and his nephew Nicholas Scott Williams of Myrtle Beach. He is also survived by his aunts, Peggy J. Harvel (Roy) of Southern Pines, Cynthia Iacona of Pinehurst, and Lynn I. Dawkins (Thomas) of Mt. Gilead. He is survived by uncles, Eugene Iacona of Mt. Gilead and Jeffrey Nichols of Ellerbe. He is also survived by his great-aunt, Stella B. Floyd of Ellerbe and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harvey and Marie Jenkins, and Gaspar and Louise Iacona; his aunts, Marianne I. Nichols, Deborah J. Goodwin, and Shirley J. McDonald and his uncle, Michael Iacona. 

A celebration of life service will be held for Joshua at Carter Funeral Home chapel in Ellerbe on April 19 at 2 pm with visitation to follow immediately afterwards.
