Louise Stone Deaton, 92, completed her life’s journey Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from her home in Rockingham following a period of declining health. A native of the Orrum Community of Robeson County, she was born July 10, 1928, a daughter of the late John Stone and Sadie Ammons Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James McLean Deaton; a son, James Lee Deaton; an “adopted” daughter, Lori Ponds; and a brother, Sonny Stone.
Louise had been a resident of Rockingham since 1956 at which time she joined First Baptist Church and became an active member as long as her health permitted. She was involved in various ministries of the church to include the prison ministry at Morrison Correctional Institute for some 30 years.
Her career was in secretarial work where she served at Vulcan Materials and at Carolina Paper Mill until the plant closed. She enjoyed taking long morning walks well into her 60s and in her spare time she did needlepoint, cross stitch and working puzzle books.
In addition to her church family, she leaves behind one son, Johnny R. Deaton of the home; a granddaughter, Marie Deaton of Laurinburg; a grandson, David Deaton of Asheboro; and her beloved sister, Betty Joyce Parnell of Laurinburg.
A memorial service may be conducted at a later date which will be announced.
