Lowell Thomas Hill, Sr.,86 of Ellerbe, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on January 25, 2025, entering his heavenly eternal rest. Born on September 17, 1938, in Richmond County, NC, he lived a life full of purpose and dedication, exemplifying the values of hard work, faith, and family.
Throughout his career, Lowell was a devoted farmer and avid gardener, nurturing the land and sharing its bounty with those around him. His commitment to agricultural life reflected his deep connection to nature and the community he cherished. Lowell proudly served six years in the United States Navy, where he developed resilience and a commitment to service that would carry through his life.
As a member of McLean Presbyterian Church EPC, Lowell took on numerous responsibilities as an elder and treasurer, devoting his time and talents to be a good steward. His contributions extended beyond the church, as he was a member and past master of Elberta Lodge #654 AF&AM, and he proudly served as past president of the Richmond County Farm Bureau. His impact on the community was profound, as he volunteered and participated in many organizations, always eager to lend a helping hand.
Lowell is survived by his beloved wife, Frances Glidewell Hill. Together, they built a loving family that includes their sons: Tom Hill, Jerry Hill, and Danny Hill (Sylvia); daughter, Amy Yaklin (Chris); and his brother, Kenneth Hill (Doris), sister, Glenda Allen (Steve), sister, Kathleen Carter (Dwight), and sister, Jewell Weatherly. He was a proud grandfather to Amy Michelle, Sean, Aaron, David, Danny, Jessica, Taylor, Molly, Kelsey, and Sarah, as well as a devoted great-grandfather to Briar, Riley, Aemon, Wade, Walt, Lottie, Jarrett, Jackson, August, Trinity, Chase, Lexie, and Kyle. He also had many nieces and nephews who looked up to him with admiration. We extend special thanks and heartfelt appreciation to our friend and Lowells caregiver, Mahogany Morrison, for her love and care during Lowells illness.He was preceded in death by his father, Maynard Martin Hill; mother, Esther Anderson Hill; brother, Robert Hill; and brother, Joseph Hill.
A visitation in honor of Lowell will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe, NC. A funeral service celebrating his remarkable life we be on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM at McLean Presbyterian Church, where family and friends will come together to remember and honor him. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
