Mary Helen Rushing Wright, born on December 12, 1961, in Scotland County, North Carolina, departed this life on March 3, 2025, in Richmond County, North Carolina. She was a vibrant spirit whose personality shone brightly in all the lives she touched. Mary was described as fun, loving, and caring, traits that made her presence a cherished gift to all who knew her.
For many years, Mary dedicated herself to her career as a waitress at Seaboard Station, where she not only served delicious meals but also created lasting memories with her patrons. Those fortunate enough to be welcomed into her life experienced her warmth and kindness, forming a tapestry of shared moments that will be forever treasured.
Mary's proudest accomplishments were her family, who meant the world to her. She leaves behind her beloved mother, Nolie Coleman Rushing; her sons, Terry Rushing and Stephen Mahon; and her brothers, Richard, Clark, James, and Frank Rushing. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love and devotion.
As we remember Mary, we reflect on the profound impact she had on those she loved. She is reunited in spirit with her late father, William Franklin Rushing, Jr. and her sisters, Constance Marie "Connie" Rushing and Tina Marie Rushing, who have gone before her. Their love and memories live on through the stories shared by her family and friends, painting a picture of a life filled with laughter and joy.
A Visitation to honor Mary will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This will be followed by a Graveside Service at Richmond County Memorial Park, starting at 1:00 PM with Pastor Joe B. Wilkes, Jr. officiating.
As we gather to celebrate Mary’s life, let us hold close the beautiful memories we have of her and remember her for the loving person she was. In our hearts, she will always remain a guiding light, illuminating our paths with her love and kindness.
