"Mickey" McDonald

Mitchell Larrett McDonald, age 77, better known to family and friends as “Mickey”, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019, at First Health Richmond Medical Center in Rockingham. He was a native of Richmond County, born July 30, 1942, the son of the late Robert Lee McDonald and Agatha Lucille Layton McDonald.  

Mickey graduated from High Point Central High School and then entered the US Army and served in Vietnam. After his honorable military service, he returned to the High Point area and worked a number of years as a welder. He also owned and operated a tire service business in High Point. Mickey was always willing to help others. He enjoyed playing cards (solitaire) and he loved children. Since returning to Hamlet, he had attended Calvary Baptist Church. 

He is survived by five sisters: Betty Overstreet of Hamlet, Jean Davis (Don) of Archdale, Patricia Messer (Vergil) of Rockingham, Nancy Sowers (Larry) of Archdale and Toni McDonald of Rockingham. He also leaves behind a son and lots of loving nieces, nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 14, at Open Door Baptist Church, 135 W. White Drive, Archdale, NC 27263, officiated by Pastor Tim White.
