Nancy Batten Edwards

On Saturday, April 7, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, Nancy Lee Batten Edwards entered into heaven to be with her Lord and Savior. She was a precious wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Edwards was born June 10, 1931 in Johnston County, NC, a daughter of the late Garland and Dora Peedin Batten.  She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She had been a long distance operator for Southern Bell and prior to her retirement was the co-owner and operator of Edwards IGA in Rockingham. She loved her family, working in her yard, cooking and working at the store. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Russell Edwards and granddaughter, Kristy Edwards.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Rev. Russell Edwards of the home; children, Tim Edwards of Fayetteville, Diane Bryant (Bobby), Brenda Burr (Mark), and Tami Rushing, all of Rockingham; grandchildren, Jeanna Cloninger (Justin), Shannon Mabe (Jason), Rusty Edwards (Ashley), Maeghan Hunter (Luke), Colton Burr (Lindsey), Jonathan Rushing and Evan Rushing and great grandchildren, Jaxon, Ayden and Ashton Mabe, Kyleigh, Bella and Kent Edwards, Ava Grace Hunter and Paisley Cloninger.

Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hendricks and Rev. Dwayne Hinson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.

Family and friends will be received from 5 – 8 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
