Obira Ravernail Griggs

Obira  Ravernail Griggs, 89, of Rockingham passed away on July  18, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital  Richmond Campus.

He retired from CSX where he served as a conductor.  His desire was to have a large family which was evident with his seven Children. He liked to fish, hunt and travel. He especially liked to travel with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  his wife, Etta Jean  Garris Griggs, his  son, Obira R. Griggs, Jr., and  Daniel Beeler Griggs, and a grandchild, Rachel Jackson.

Surviving are his children, David Milton Griggs(Kathy), Richard Garris Griggs (Sylvia), Robert Stanley Griggs(Laura) Michael Stephen Griggs(Angela), Virginia Gay Roberts(Dennis); 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday  July 22, 2023 from 11:00 am -  12:00 pm at Roberdell Methodist Church, with the service beginning at 12:00 Noon, with Pastor Paul Haber officiating.  Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery.
