Jeanne Octavia Olive, formerly of Ellerbe,passed away peacefully March 26, 2018 at Fox Hollow Senior Living, in Pinehurst, North Carolina. She was born April 19, 1927 to Dr. William Harvey Olive and Dr. Esther Lentz Olive, both practicing Chiropractors. Jeanne grew up in Ellerbe, NC. After graduating from Ellerbe High, Jeanne attended Meredith College, in Raleigh, receiving her BA in Business. She received her Masters from UNC Chapel Hill. After Meredith, Jeanne helped her father with his Chiropractic offices in Ellerbe, Rockingham and Southern Pines. She began her teaching career in the early 1950’s at Mount Olive High, in Mount Olive, NC. In 1958 Jeanne accepted a teaching position at Melbourne High School and moved to the space coast and Melbourne, FL. The majority of Jeanne’s career in education would be spent counseling high school students. Much of that time was at North Mecklenburg High and later at Independence High, in Charlotte, NC. After retiring from the school system, Jeanne returned to Ellerbe and the Olive family home on Main Street. Jeanne loved music and musicals. Her mother taught her to play the organ and the piano. Jeanne loved attending performances in Charlotte, Abingdon, VA, and NYC. Jeanne loved to travel and visited much the United States with one trip to the Middle East and Europe. As a teacher/counselor she loved going on the High School field trips to Washington, DC. Reading the comments written by her students in old high school annuals is a testimony as to how much they loved her as a teacher. Jeanne was a devoted Christian, very involved with her churches, both Methodist and Baptist. She taught Sunday school for decades and volunteered. Jeanne is preceded in death by her two sisters, Wilhelmina (Billie) Lentz Olive Catoe of Hartsville, SC and Esther Olema Olive Wilson of Lake City, Fl. She is survived by two nieces, Penny Wilson Weber(Russ), Gainesville, Fl and Pattie Dale Wilson Tye (Jim) , Louisville, KY, and one nephew James ( Jock) Young Wilson, Jr.( Nancy) , Billings, MT and two grands, Nathan Lentz Weber and Joanna Penelope Weber. A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11;00 am at First Baptist Church in Rockingham, with Dr. Jim Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 am – 10:45 am prior to the service at the Church.
