Patsy “ Pat” Elizabeth Meacham, 72, of Chapel Hill, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 25, 2018 at UNC Hospice Home in Pittsboro.
Miss Meacham was born December 15, 1945 in Richmond County, the daughter of the late Edgar Jackson and Effie Thelma Ussery Meacham. She was a graduate of Ellerbe High School and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She worked with the Social Security Administration in her later years but her heart was in teaching whether that was in the classroom from which she retired or from the lectern at her church where she made Scripture come alive with her ability to animate the text that she knew by heart. The prophets were her specialty no doubt honed from years in the classroom teaching the machinations of the human heart through the words and works of Shakespeare. She was a devoted member of Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill where she had many friends who celebrated her fully and especially at her last birthday where she toasted those who had gathered and gave thanks for her life. She sang for many years with her parish choir as well as with Voices, the community chorus of Chapel Hill. When asked by her parish priest what she thought heaven might be she said “Gothic Cathedrals and Glorious Music.” May it be so for so dear a faithful servant of God.
Surviving are many cousins, her church family, friends of Bill W, her cats Odin and Aphrodite, and her dear friend Rita Fellers of Chapel Hill.
Her funeral will be held at the Chapel of the Cross on February 7 at 1:00 pm with burial to follow in the churchyard. There will be a gathering of friends and family following the service.
