Richard Lee Callahan

Richard Lee Callahan, 81, of Laurel Hill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Callahan was born October 1, 1940 in Richmond County, a son of the late Dixon C. and Virginia Goodwin Callahan. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War and in the US Army National Guard of North Carolina. He had worked in textiles and loved to hunt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Callahan, brother, Roland Callahan and step-son, Jerry Michael DeBerry.

Surviving are his wife, Bonnie A. Callahan; children, Robert Callahan, Rhonda Stewart, and Ricky Callahan (Kay); step-children, Cynthia Sweet (Boone), Katherine Dieffenbach (Joe) and Japheth DeBerry (Kate); 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends from 3:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
