Richard Benjamin Lee
Richard Benjamin Lee of Ellerbe passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 18,2022. He was born on August 6, 1935, in Montgomery County, the son of late Marion Henry Lee and Ada Britt Lee.
Richard served in the Army for the United States from July 1956 to July 1958 as a Specialist Fourth Class. He was then employed as supervisor in refrigeration with L.G. Dewitt for 30 plus years where he later retired from. Richard also worked as pit crew member for the Dewitt Racing team. Growing up, Richard enjoyed playing sports such football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoyed fishing with his brothers, and he worked in cotton and tobacco fields. Richard was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church in Candor for several years. Richard had a big heart and was loved by many.
Richard is proceeded in death by his brothers Ervin Lee, Travis Lee, Albert Lee, and Brantley Lee. His sisters Louise Lee, Jeanette Bowman, Roberta Moore, and Lucille Lewis.
Surviving is his wife, Helen Battan Lee of the home for 61 years. His sons Roger Lee (Penny) of Florida, Kenneth Lee (Sarah) of Ellerbe and grandchildren Brandon Lee (Amber) and Vickie Lee King (Keith) both of Ellerbe. Sisters Margie Blake, Barbara Jean Hudson, Mattie Dennis, Joyce Cole, Irene Treece, Beatrice Sexton, and Darlene Haene. Great grandchildren William, Brayden, Skylar, Laythan and Ryder. Six great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The Lee Family would like to express the heartwarming appreciation for his two caregivers Sarah Lee and Amber Stone.
The arrangements for Richard Lee are for March 22, 2022, at 2pm at Laurel Hill Baptist with burial following the service in the cemetery of the church. The visitation will be 12:45 to 1:45 prior to the service.
