Ronald Lee Murray

Ronald Lee Murray, 72, of Derby, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Murray was born February 7, 1945 in Robertson County, KY, a son of the late James Earl and Janet Hester Murray. He had served his country in the US Navy and was a member of the American Legion in Rockingham. He was a member of the Derby Fire Department and the UAW, where he had served as president of Local 735 for Hydromatics. Following his retirement from General Motors and the UAW as an International Representative, he and Charlotte moved to Derby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Means and brother, Joseph Means.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Anne Brown Murray of the home; children, Ronald Lee Murray, II of Ellerbe, James Earl Murray of Snow Hill, NC, Kathleen Janet Murray of LaGrange, NC; step-children, Brenda  Anne Conklin (David) of Derby, Rodney Lee Sawyer (Elaine) of Port Sanilac, MI, Bryan Lynn Sawyer (Kim) of Marysville, MI; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and a brother, Albert Murray of Robertson, KY.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.

The family will see friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
