Rufus Carol McLean, 95, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Mr. McLean was born January 9, 1922 in Rockingham, a son of the late Hugh and Josie O’Brien McLean. Carol’s life was centered around Rockingham and the people he knew in the community. He was known as the town’s banker. He began his career as a teller at the old Farmer’s Bank in Rockingham, which later became Southern National Bank, where he worked as Vice President for many years. He was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham, where he had served as an elder for many years. The family thanks God for his devotion. He was also a member of the Rockingham Civitan Club and Richmond County Historical Society. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Donald and Jim McLean. Surviving are his wife Doris E. Mitchell McLean; daughter Susan E. Rossinelli; son Rufus C. McLean, Jr; grandchildren Luca Rossinelli and Marilyn E. McLean. A service to celebrate the life of R.C. McLean will be at 11 am Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham with Rev. Dwight Williams officiating. The family will see friends following the service at the church and at other times at the home.
