Ruth Smith Wray

Ruth Smith Wray, 80, of Hamlet passed away on May 25, 2021 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham, NC. Ruth was born on November 12, 1940 in Richmond County a daughter of the late Herman C. and Dorothy Evans Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Phillip David Strickland.

Ruth went to the Dr. Bill James school of nursing, also known as the Hamlet School of Nursing. During her career as a nurse she worked in many area hospitals including Hamlet Hospital, Cheraw Hospital, Chesterfield County Hospital and Richmond Memorial Hospital.

She also worked in many areas of the hospital from the  birth and delivery, surgery, ICU, and the emergency room.

Ruth is survived by her son Paul Collins Strickland; a grandson, Jefferson Collins Strickland and Cassie Davis Strickland; sister Cynthia Smith Benadum.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
