Sarah Nichols Rush-Ussery, 85, of Ellerbe, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at her home.
Mrs. Ussery was born July 31, 1932 in Stanly County, a daughter of the late George Winston and Mary Wincey Kimrey Nichols. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and had been active in church missions. She had retired from Ellerbe Hatchery and following retirement she had volunteered at Richmond Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Van C. Rush, son, Doyle V. Rush, daughter-in-law, Helen Rush, brothers, Henry, Bud, Clyde, and Bill Nichols, sisters, Mae Edwards, Carrie Nichols, Susan Kendall, Clarise Nichols, Ruby Morton, Eunice Deaton-McKinnon and her twin sister, Sadie Staton.
Surviving are her husband of 4 years, Robert Marshall Ussery of the home; children, Tony Rush (Terri) of Vass and Tammy Rush (Wesley) of West End; grandchildren, Kenneth Rush (Angie) of West End, Crystal Smith (Patrick) of Hamlet, Jennifer Mabe (Brent) of Rockingham, Cyrus Taylor of Jacksonville, NC, Amy Turner (Dale) of Rockingham, and Chris Haywood (Luanne) of Rockingham; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sarah Rush Williams of Aiken, SC; step-children, Robert Ussery of High Point, Harvey Ussery of Hume, VA, Steve Ussery of Wilmington, and Jean Ussery of Raleigh; numerous step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Judy Chavis and Paul and Joanne Ashton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Saturday at Ellerbe Cemetery with Rev. Bill Monroe officiating.
The family will see friends from 9:30 – 10:30 am Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
