Virginia Watts Russell-Gee, 92, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Mrs. Russell-Gee was born October 24, 1930 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late R.H. and Hepsy Gore Watts. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church since 1972 , where she had been active in the WMU, sang in the choir and for over 40 years taught Sunday School. She worked with JP Stevens Co, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co and retired from the Sandhill Regional Library System after 38 years of service. She was also an active member of the Business Professional Womens Club before her retirement. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert Claude Russell and John Wesley Gee, her brother, Marvin C. “Bert” Watts and her sister, Ethel Watts Stogner.
Surviving are her nephew and niece, Marvin Eric Watts (Teresa), and Patricia Stogner Bland (Thomas A., Jr); great nieces and nephew, Natalie Elizabeth Watts (Justin Marks), Eleanor Bland Lowdermilk (Andrew), and Edward Thomas Bland and great-great nephews and niece, Nolan, Lenoir and Ginny Mae.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr and Rev. Delane Burris officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will see friends from 12:45 – 1:45 pm Saturday at the church.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff of Richmond County Hospice, Hospice Haven and to her caregivers in her final months Alberta Bivens and Classie Brewington for their kindness, compassion and wonderful care of Mrs. Russell-Gee.
