William Hicks Scott

William Hicks Scott

William Hicks Scott, 79, of Rockingham, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Richmond County Hospice Haven, following a brief illness. 

Born August 26, 1941 in Greensboro, NC, he was a son of the late Garland Elmo and Mary Louise Hicks Scott. He was of the Methodist faith and attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.  

Bill grew up in Pineville, NC and graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1959. He attended Wingate Junior College, Western Carolina University and graduated from the University of Florida. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

After working in forestry and logging for several years, he went to work with CSX Transportation and retired with 25 years of service. Following retirement, he found a passion in sawmilling, which he was able to enjoy for sixteen years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Gwen Thomas Scott; son, William Hicks Scott, Jr. and wife Leslie; their children, Mary Marlowe Scott, Emily Raylin Scott and William Hicks Scott, III; son, Rayme Dale Mudd and wife Julia; daughter, Christine Louise Scott; brother, Garland Elmo Scott, Jr and wife Carolyn and father-in-law, James Ray Thomas.

Graveside services, with Military Honors.  will be at 2pm Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Richmond County Memorial Park with Rev. Ernie Walters officiating. Facial coverings will be required and please keep in mind social distancing.

Bill will lie in state from 10 am until Noon Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.

Due to COVID 19 and certain family members well being, the family requests no visitors at the home.

Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 275 Airport Rd, Rockingham, NC 28379 or to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 N. US Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
