Joseph Andrew Gibson

Joseph "Joe" Andrew Gibson, 63, of Rockingham and Little River SC joined Jesus on Monday February 20th, 2012 at Grand Strand Regional Hospital in Myrtle Beach SC. He was the son of Archie Clinton and Lucy Mae Seago Gibson oh Hoffman NC. Joe attended Hoffman High School. He graduated in 1966. Joe was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He received three purple hearts and two bronze stars during his service in the 101st Airborne. Joe was a follower of Jesus. He was a long time member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church in Rockingham NC. He served on many committees, including the United Methodist Men. Joe recently married Mavis Watson of Rockingham NC. They were wed February 12, 2012. Joe was a dedicated father. He was the very definition of a "daddy" to his kids. He was always an active participant in their lives and will be missed beyond measure. Surviving: His wife, Mavis Watson Gibson. His children Melissa Gibson Burchett, Leigh Anne Russell, and Billy Harding Smith III "Trey". Joe, "Papa Joe" is leaving four grandsons: Logan Burchett, Trevor Russell, Nolyn Smith and Dylan Smith. He also leaves one granddaughter: Hailey Belk. Funeral Services will be Saturday February 25 at 11:00am at West Rockingham United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Friday February 24 from 6-8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
